Our Little Blueberry

To all of those who follow us on Facebook, you know that we have welcomed a little girl into our lives! Our daughter, Lucille Breanne Metz, was born on February 28, 2020. She came into the world after 19 hours of labor led to complications with the induction and a change to a C-section. Weighing 10 lbs, 4 oz and measuring 21 inches, she was a BIG baby! The entire surgical staff was floored by her size and everyone was exclaiming throughout the procedure. Of course, her size resulted in her wanting fed immediately, despite me not having enough supply right away. Little Lucy ended up losing 10% of her weight in the hospital, so they wanted us to start supplementing her. It didn't matter in the end because my milk came in and she is now officially back up to birth weight as of 2 days ago! Woohoo, go girl go!

We are overjoyed and so grateful for our daughter! It's still so crazy to say that, but I'll get used to it eventually. The only down side to the whole thing has been that she came right before the whole Coronavirus Pandemic took foot in the country. She and I were already in quarantine of sorts because of maternity leave and her being so new, but now it's gone to a whole new level. Yesterday, Bryan and I took her out for a walk and had to cross the street to keep up the "social distancing" guidelines and make sure we didn't get too close to anyone else on the street. It will all blow over one day, though, and then we can take her back out into the world with people! Let me tell you, this extrovert is needing to interact with actual humans! Thankfully, Bryan has been working from home since this started, so I've had some adult interaction throughout the day. It's the only thing getting me through some days!

So, I'm sure you may be asking why this post is title "Our Little Blueberry," so here's the backstory: the day I found out I was pregnant, I went to the grocery store. While walking through the store, I was thinking about how crazy it was that I had this super amazing secret, this life growing inside me, and yet all of the people walking around me had no idea just how special of a day it was for me! As I was walking through the produce section, I passed the blueberries and immediately though how I basically had a little blueberry in my stomach! Yes, she was much smaller than a blueberry at the time, but that's where my mind went and it just stuck! My little blueberry!

An ironic moment then happened when she was born: she came out looking purple like a blueberry! She really was our little blueberry! And even better, we decided to name her Lucille Breanne! So she will be LB forever! :)

Lucy will be one month old tomorrow and while the time kinda seems to have flown, I can still think back to the first few days and how they absolutely dragged on! The first week home was so hard! I've never had so little sleep my whole life. I knew it was supposed to be hard, but I didn't expect that at all! Bryan and I camped out on the sofa for the first five days, trading shifts as they came up. Thankfully, she has started sleeping at least 6 hours at night now (not all at once, but at least 2-3 hour stretches...), so we are on a much better level! Which is great because Bryan needs his sleep in order to work every day. I can sleep sometime throughout the day to catch up on what I lose at night, but he doesn't have that luxury.

In honor of her one month, I might as well share her newborn photos with you all! We had a wonderful friend of ours come over and take more candid shots for those photos. I've never been a cliche person, so the whole "wrap them in a blanket and pose them in a basket" photo is just not my style. I hope you enjoy these wonderful shots of our beautiful daughter!

So here we sit, the day before her month birthday and it still hasn't quite hit me that I'm a mom yet. She's here and she's perfect! I just can't wait to see what she becomes! All I know is that this little squirmy worm has stolen my whole heart and has me wrapped around her finger less than a month into her existence!
